The power produced is although small, but it is almost enough to power a mobile in standby mode indefinitely without ever needing to plug it into the mains.
In today’s life, it is very common that when you come from your work, you plug-in your cell phone to recharge it daily. Because its usage has increased a lot and people are now pretty much dependent on this small device. Beside voice calls and text messages, listening to FM radio, listening to stored music, browsing Internet, doing photography, and even making videoscalls is something very common now for most of the mobile phone users. In that case, you are always in a bit of bother that your cell phone’s battery is running out of power.
Mobile chargers will no more be required.
Nokia claims that this prototype, instead of harvesting tiny amounts of power (a few microwatts) from dedicated transmitters, is able to search and collect relatively large amounts of power around a thousand times as much from signals coming from miles away. So the mobile phone users won’t have to worry about recharging their most used device in their daily routine.
